Canadian Prosthetics & Orthotics Journal promotes unrestricted access to articles for prosthetics and orthotics professionals, researchers, and rehabilitation teams. The scope of the journal includes prosthetics, orthotics, rehabilitation sciences, mobility assistive technology (MAT), Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Prosthetics and Orthotics field.
Authors are required to submit a short summary for non-expert readers along with their manuscript file. Please describe (not exceed 250 words) the nature of the problem the project addresses, goals and project outcomes using language understandable by a non-expert.
Authors are invited and encouraged to submit their original and unpublished manuscripts to this journal. At the CPOJ we publish the following research types:
Research article, Case Study/Case Series, Professional Opinion, Review Article, Editorials, Clinical Note, Symposium Articles, Thesis Abstract and student poster.
The main body of a research article should not exceed 3000 words with a limit of 7 figures/tables in total. The main body must include the following sections: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgments and References. The abstract has a 300 words limit and should contain the following subheadings: Background, Objectives, Methodology, Findings, and Conclusions.
Case Study/Case Series:
The main body of a single Case study or a Case series should not exceed 2000 words with a limit of 5 figures/tables in total. The main body must include the following sections: Introduction (including case description, assessment, and aim of the study), Methodology, Findings, and Discussion. The Case study or a Case series should have a 200 word limit abstract and should include the following subheadings: Case Description, Aim, Methods, Findings, and Conclusion.
The Editors invite professionals and clinicians to provide contributions of this type (Interview, technology insight, product reviews, commentary).
The main body of a review paper should not exceed 6000 words with a limit of 8 figures/tables in total. The main body must include the following sections: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgments and References. The abstract has a 200 word limit and should contain the following subheadings: Study design, Introduction, Methodology, Findings, and Conclusions.
The technical note should provide a brief summary of innovative technological approaches or procedures used in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. The main body of a technical/clinical note should not exceed 1500 words with a limit of 4 figures/tables in total. The main body must include the following sections: Background, Objective, Methodology, Discussion, Acknowledgments, and References. The abstract has a 200 word limit and should contain the following subheadings: Background, Objective, Methodology, and Discussion.
Submission title should be informative and clearly describes the research work.
The Abstract of a research work is critically important and should be brief and clearly describe the content of the manuscript.
In the Introduction section, authors must clearly state the problem(s) being explored in their research study and clarify previous findings in the literature, if applicable.
We highly recommend our authors to consider the following items in the Methodology section:
1) The research design must be appropriate for solving the problem(s) stated in the introduction section.
2) Authors must provide sufficient information in order for their research to be replicable. Moreover, the method for all forms of data collection must be clearly explained in this section.
3) Proper in-text citation and reference (Vancouver style) to previous research work.
4) Suitable and reliable equipment and/or software for collecting and analyzing the data.
In the Result section, authors must report their findings in words, tables, or figures. Presented tables, and figures must be original and comprehensible with informative and appropriate captions.
In the Discussion and Conclusion sections, authors must support their findings with intelligible explanations. New findings or results should not be presented in these sections. Moreover, the authors should compare their findings with relevant literature and state their study’s limitations at the end of the discussion section.
Authors must indicate references to the literature by using in-text citations in the “Vancouver” style. References must be listed in numerical order (1,2,3,…), and in the same order in which they are cited in the article. The reference list must appear at the end of the manuscript. Medical Ethics: In research studies involving human subjects, the research protocol must be submitted for consideration, comment, and approval to an appropriate research ethics committee. Medical ethics approval must be declared in the manuscript under the methodology sections.

At CPOJ, we use the ICMJE Conflict of Interest form. Please download and complete the ICMJE conflict of interest form. The signed form must be submitted along with the manuscript files. All authors are required to reveal any financial and personal relationships with organizations or individuals that might have influenced their research.
Plagiarism in all its forms is unacceptable and unethical. Canadian Prosthetics & Orthotics Journal (CPOJ) takes seriously matters of plagiarism and copyright infringement. Appropriate citation and acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Submitted manuscript may be checked with duplication-verifying software. In cases of plagiarism, or disputed authorship, CPOJ reserves the right to retract the published article and if necessary, take legal action.
At CPOJ, we adhere to the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) recommendations.

“All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Contributors who meet fewer than all 4 of the above criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors, but they should be acknowledged.”

All articles published by CPOJ are permanently available online to the public without any restrictions or subscription fees. All articles are permitted to be used, copied, and distributed, on condition that appropriate acknowledgement is included. There is no charge associated with submitting a manuscript to the journal. Submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by two to three experts. This process may take up to seven weeks. Based on the comments provided by the reviewers, our editorial team will proceed to accept, reject, or return the submission for initial revision. (Review process).
Authors are required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) after their manuscript has been accepted for publication. The APC covers several journal costs (i.e. electronic archiving, administrative, membership, journal development, formatting articles, disseminating the content of the journal, etc). APC will not be refunded during instances of article retraction. In cases of plagiarism, or disputed authorship, CPOJ reserves the right to retract the published article and if necessary, take legal action.
Article Processing Charge is based on article type. However, for the first two year of publication (2018, 2019), the APC has been waived. There is no APC for invited articles. CPOJ will provide a waiver or discount if authors are based in a country classified by the World Bank* as a low-income or a lower-middle-income economy.
